India, we missed the bus.

“Man, what has happened to my country” (Hamara Desh enga poguthu) remarked one of my NRI friends. This Delhi rape incident has provided impetus for the dormant volcano to erupt. It is not that Law and Order has suddenly deteriorated or BlameItAll on UPA government.  There’s has been more reporting of rape cases by media channels and more FIRs are filled in cases of sexual harassment.

Why all of a sudden this incident shook the country? Two reasons.  One, the brutality of the criminals makes all men to hang their heads. Two the incident happened in the national capital, more approachable by the media channels. Rapes happen in Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Tuticorin, Vridhachalam.  What is even worse, some village and Khap panchayats, on the pretext of culture, compel the victims to settle for a compromise and marry the criminals. These criminals should just be given a treat like Shoot out at Minor kunju by Vivek.

Yes, so much outrage over these crime against women. Rationally speaking, how do we move forward?

1. Government or institutional changes.

 A) Keeping the pressure on the government to introduce more stringent judicial reforms and amend IPC and CRPC sections. The police reforms needs to be introduced to empower police forces and also hire more women into work force.  A change in the mind of police or empowering women police can help in the bringing to book many unreported cases of sexual violence. (Only 1 conviction in 635 rape cases in delhi in 2012  )

B) ‘Justice Delayed is justice Denied’. Indian judiciary truly lives up to this reputation. Fast tracking of the pending cases and amending our legal loopholes can alone reaffirm some respect in our Indian judiciary. Terms like Eve teasing and rapes need to be cleared defined under sexual harassment sections

C) Bringing electoral reforms and debarring people with criminal records can resolve most problems in the country. All of us will agree to this. (The list of MPs and MLAs who have declared rape cases and crimes against women in their names: http://bit.ly/TODzh6 )

D) Need for all boards across India to uniformly introduce sex education at school level. By sex education, I mean Sexism and not about fantasizing reproduction.

E) There’s a genuine need to introduce more and more co-education schools across India. We’re in a situation where women compete against men and perform better in most cases. Lack of exposure in understanding opposite sexes has lead to many stresses in adolescent age and increased number of suicides in < 28 years age group.

If the political class has the will or they succumb to people’s pressure, only then at least one of the above bills will pass through. Government alone can’t be blamed for all this menace; we should partially take the blame too.

2. Individual introspection.

A) A change in the mindset of the people about treating women and accepting crimes against women as heinous. Domestic violence and sexual abuse will definitely have an impact in the formative years of a child.

B) Poor depiction of women in our movies. Scantily clad women with low necks till their cleavage and the culture of item numbers are ridiculously glorified in the name of commercial cinema. There’s also this concept of men teaching women ‘how to dress, behave in society’ by our heroes. Our censor boards need to have a spine. These are the movies that our students watch and emulate in their college days and at workplaces.News channels should refrain from reporting whose wardrobe malfunctioned, which star dated which actor and who got totally sloshed at who's party. There are far more issues pertaining to national interest than lip-lock scene and sensuous moves or bikini clad actress.

These are some suggestions that I’ve sent to Justice Verma(justice.verma@nic.in) committee. These suggestions are just enough to climb the roof top and not the sky. But still aiming for sky is easier from the rooftop than from the ground.

Hey Delhi Girl, i don't know who you're. Whatever has happened to you, could have happened to any other women in this country. May your spirit bring about a change. RIP :(  I believe, together we create a safer country for the kids.

Neethaane En Ponvasantham

This is not a review post from an armchair critic or eulogy post from Younngg Lauvvers. I'd watched this movie with minimal expectations after people showed thumbs down for the move and box office ringing alarm bells.

I'm no one to tell plus and minus of the film or to share my experience in soundcloud like RJ Balaji. The plot set in an urban middle class family, there were lot more things i could relate to.

Strong pragmatic yet egoistic characters. Life's simple, but we complicate it. Understanding women is even more complicated. Having interacted with so many women, each having unique characters that separate stories can be made on their personality.

Working in a NGO sector and interacting with women's arts college students. Oh My Goodness! I think i see so many multilayered Nithyas.

Infact, in real life, i can literally point out so many girls who are like Nithya Vasudevan.

Being a love guru(thanks to Mirchi Shiva's show) myself, this movie depicted the mindset of an average college going boy or girl. The scene where there breakup after Varun's IIM call, Nithya starts quantifying how much she has sacrificed for Varun and lists them out. Most of the breakups that i've consulted had this problem. 'I did so much for him, he/she didn't even realize that' was the common reason.


Innocent > Childish immature > practical decision making. This movie symbolizes that. Life doesn't always give instant gratification. Love is even more like that.

Ravi Ragavender's dialogue 3 hours before marriage seizes it for me. "Be a Man". (For this 3 word dialogue, Rs.120 you want to spend-a. I know your mind voice). At some point in each one's life(around 24 yrs) we'll make decisions and stay firm on them. come what may, you will have the guts to face the consequences because you know that it is your decision and your life.

Last but not Least, Santhanam laugh riot (Best thing GVM has done in the movie). chill dude. Just for fun!

PS: I did challenge Suren and Madhan from LXG that i'll never like this movie. It sucked. But now i stand corrected.

There are quite a few disadvantages of knowing friends who study b-schools. You take time out of your busy schedule (You're not that busy, Just putting scene) and fill in their surveys. The worst part is they follow you everywhere Post on Facebook Wall, Alumni groups, LinkedIn, twitter and ask you to fill in.

IMO, The most annoying thing is‘Liking a Facebook Page’. Every now and then you get a ping on Facebook asking you to like a page/Photo.

Sir, what is the concept of liking a Facebook page.  I don't find any reason for me to agree to this idea.

If the page is going to provide information about latest trends/opinions/FAQs, then I agree with that idea. At least, say you drool over some new actress or inspired by some public figure and you like them, then it's OK.

Photography. Needless to say every Tom, Dick and Harry has the money to get a SLR irrespective of whether he knows photography or not. You only take pictures of girls (obviously who will want guys pics n all), flowers, dog, snakes, sky patterns etc. If at all I go 'Wow!!', I can give you a Like and say congrats 'Good work. Keep it up'.

But plainly asking me to like and all too much. Just because, I'm your friend and you've paid for my Hot Chocolate in college, you want me to like ah. You want to show off that so many people liked your team/photo. All this vetti scene you want to do and peethify (self trumpet) before that Girl in-charge of the event. Don't worry, she is already committed.

Wonder who came with this concept. See, everyone has their own network of friends. Obviously who has the biggest active network on Facebook wins. It's not a fair deal. Then how on earth can you claim it to be a public opinion. This is just like the reality show situation. Even the less talented contestant wins because he knows more people who can send SMS and waste Rs.5


If the greatest thinkers from b-schools can give me a rationale, I can accept this preposterous concept and soothe myself.

Chennai Encounter

One can certainly some decisive action whenever JJ is in power. Especially when it comes to Law and Order. Of course, there are a lot of other impertinent activities she does due to political vendetta.

5 suspects killed when police went to investigate them. The police needs a better PR person to state that this was a preventive action and not an encounter. Atleast believable.

Personally, i despise with people who steal money for their livelihood.

Our police and our judicial system gives A.C Room, TV, quality food, etc for people who steal 1.76 lac crores, but kill a person who steals 15 lakhs. Both are hard earned money of the people and there should be no distinction in crime based on the magnitude of loot. Crime is crime. Accused is Accused.

chuck 1.76lac Cr. One fellow from Pakistan is given royal treatment in Mumbai jail. He was holding the entire country to ransom for 3 days. Still nothing has been done.

Rewind even further.. There are people in who killed our Prime Minister. I'm not judging their action as Right or Wrong. But after given death sentence for more than 10 yrs, they are not yet hanged.

Sometimes we should really feel 'Suppressed, Oppressed n Depressed' by the slowness of our abilities while dealing with accused.

India's Test Woes

In a country where all students fear cycle test, midterm, semester, viva, thesis, and 100 more, asking laxman (with a potbelly) to play test cricket is ridiculous. While everyone can have their opinions about what can the BCCI,selectors, team management do (who cares even the likes of Arun Lal, Nikil chopra and Vinod Kambli criticize Indian team's poor show), It would be a grave mistake on my part if i don't give my suggestions.

1.BCCI should another test series with Australia in India. Call it the revenge series (Give some name Agneepath, Dewar,etc). India will thrash Aussies outright. Now media can claim moral victory. (This is vadivelu's strategy in Nagaram movie)

2. Clause a)Make Kenya and Zimbabwe test playing nations and play back to back home and away matches.
Clause b) Organize back to back test series against Sri Lanka. India Tour of Srilanka. Srilanka tour of India. (3 test matches and 5 ODis each) on Sub continent Wickets. And we can claim no.1 spot.

3. BCCI should use its money power to bully ICC and declare bowling bouncers to Indian batsman as offense. Grade 1 offense (like Virat's Middle finger). Repeated offenses can lead to suspension and possible ban.

4. If nothing works out, play racism card against South Africa, England, Australia, New Zealand. Tell them you won't tour as racial abuse in demeaning and demotivating. You can win matches in other countries.

5. Last but not the least. Hire our Minister Kapil Sibal as Troubleshooter for current test debacle. He'll claim there was no 4-0 loss in test series in Australia and England. The players followed the 1955 team strategy, a policy framed by his predecessors. No loss policy like in 2G case.

PS:I hope Sibal doesn't censor my blog. All points have been suggested with a lighter vein. Even if it doesn't evoke laughter, try laughing at mokka jokes. Good for health.
